SQLite: Hilfreiche Datenbank-Tools für Adobe AIR

AIR bietet bekanntlicherweise die Möglichkeit, lokale SQLite-Datenbanken zu nutzen. Bei der Entwicklung von datenbankgestützten AIR-Anwendungen kann es sehr nützlich sein, wenn man auch direkt einen Blick in die Datenbank werfen kann. So kann man nachvollziehen, ob die Daten korrekt sind und mögliche Fehler entdecken.

Bei der Webentwicklung mit PHP und MySQL hat sich dafür phpMyAdmin durchgesetzt. Heute möchte ich drei Tools vorstellen, die ähnliche Funtionalitäten für SQLite bieten.

Eine weiterer Einsatzzweck für solche Tools kann sein, dass man eine Datenbank vorbefüllen möchte. Statt die Datenbank nach der Installation des Programms beim User aufwändig per ActionScript zu erstellen und mit Daten zu initialisieren, kopiert man einfach ein beiliegendes fertig befülltes Datenbank-File an den gewünschten Ort.

Lita – SQLite Administration

SQLite Adobe AIR Lita

Lita ist ein kostenloses Tool. Da es selbst eine AIR-Anwendung ist, läuft es auf Windows, Mac und Linux. Mit Lita kann neben dem Verwalten von Datenbank und Tabellen auch die Inhalte verwalten. Außerdem kann man auch SQL-Statements durchführen.

Lita is an administration interface for SQLite databases. It lets you edit your databases structure and data in a dedicated environment.

Lita ist übersichtlich aufgebaut. Eine Besonderheit: Da Lita speziell auf Adobe AIR ausgelegt ist, werden auch die mit Adobe AIR 1.5 eingeführten verschlüsselten Datenbanken unterstützt.

Firefox-Plugin SQLite Manager

SQLite Firefox Plugin

In Form eines Add-On für Firefox kommt der SQLite Manager daher und kann nach der Installation über das Menü „Extras” aufgerufen werden. Der Funktionsumfang dürfte ähnlich wie bei Lita sein. Allerdings fehlen AIR-spezifische Funktionalitäten wie die Verschlüsselung.

SQLite Sorcerer

SQLite Sorcerer air

Das dritte Tool im Bunde heißt SQLite Sorcerer. Aufgrund der netten Animation mit dem Zaubertrank-Topf soll es nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Insgesamt bietet es ähnliche Features wie die anderen beiden Programme, allerdings ist die Bedienung teilweise etwas weniger intuitiv.

Fazit

Mein persönlicher Favorit ist Lima, da es einfach zu bedienen und übersichtlich ist. Zusätzlich ist es speziell für SQLite-Datenbanken auslegt, die mit Adobe AIR genutzt werden.

Abschließend noch der Hinweis auf den Beitrag Lokale SQL-Datenbank verwenden von letztem Jahr. Er war Bestandteil einer Reihe an Tutorials, die über das Stichwort Adobe AIR. nachgeschlagen werden können.

danke für die links! wer vollkommen auf freie tools setzt, auf jedenfall eine gute auswahl. für den professionellen einsatz und einen effektiven workflow kann ich diese liste nur noch um das komerzielles tool SQLite Maestro ergänzen. habe bisher keinen euro bereut!

Thank you for this review, I think this is the first one including the SQLite Sorcerer.
I am open to any suggestion to improve this product and its usability, so don’t hesitate to send me suggestions.
The next version will include the encryption, this is almost ready.
Just one important point : the SQLite Sorcerer can compare the structure of 2 SQLite databases, this is really a great feature that is only available in few products, often non-free.

I like your left column which is easy to use. In my opinion you could improve the right side. Lima has tabs for structure and data which is easy to understand. I also couldn’t find a way (or the button) to modify the data (like adding a new record).

It would also help if the buttons/icons would be bigger and with a label.

In the next version (1.2), I am adding labels on buttons instead of tooltips, this should help the user to find their actions, you’re absolutely right.
For some actions, you must use the right-click, you will get a context menu. For Mac users, I’m not sure if this is convenient enough. But this avoids to add too much buttons.

To edit data/field : right-click or double-click
To add data/field : right-click and „Add a new record“ in the menu.

I suppose that only right/double-clicks are not enough… for the first use. But once you know how to do, I think that to keep the UI „clean“ and „clear“ is important.

To load a new db : click on the cauldron beside the file name (I admit this is not easy to find :/)

In the next version, I also add a „Recent files“ feature ;).
